CYNTHIA WELSH, LCSW-C, QCSW

ABOUT CYNTHIA
I am a Psychotherapist with a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work and have been practicing for over 22 years. I completed my graduate studies at the University of Maryland in 1999.
Over the last two decades, I have worked for the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Mosaic Community
Services, private independent schools, Sheppard Pratt, the Board of Child Care, and in private practice. I have provided individual, group, and family therapy , in both English and Spanish, in homes, schools, and outpatient clinics.
I have spent the last 10 years as Clinical Director of three clinics and a psychiatric rehabilitation
program, responsible for all psychotherapists, prescribers, interns, and administrative staff. I am a
Board-certified clinical supervisor in the State of Maryland, training graduate-level therapists and interns.
CYNTHIA’S THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
In private practice, I specialize in the treatment of children and adolescents dealing with anxiety, depression, school concerns, self-esteem issues, adjustment difficulties, and ADHD.
Over the last 20 years, I have made it my mission to stay up-to-date on treatment approaches and to continually add to my clinical repertoire. My specialized training includes certification in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) from the world-renowned Beck Institute. I'm trained in TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused CBT), MBSR-T (Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction for Teens, and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). These certifications are just a sampling of some of the evidence-based treatments I provide, all available to be integrated as appropriate into individualized therapy with each client.
Above and beyond the techniques I have trained in, I value the relationship between myself and my clients as one built on mutual trust and understanding. A positive therapeutic relationship, which is achieved when a client feels safe and supported, is essential to treatment and serves as the springboard to dive into the therapeutic process. To that end, I see the work of therapy as a team effort. Using a collaborative approach, I strive to include the client, parents/guardians, and their support team to reach the client’s therapeutic goals. Treatment is tailored to work with each individual's needs and goals to help clients reach their identified ultimate potential.
