                                             ABOUT DR. GORMAN

I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland and provide services to children, adolescents, and their families. With every child and family, it is my goal to provide a warm and supportive therapeutic environment. I attended the University of Pittsburgh where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and I received my Master of Science and Doctor of Psychology from Loyola University Maryland.

I have experience in a variety of settings including private practice, outpatient and inpatient hospitals, and within community mental health.  I work with children and adolescents struggling with anxiety and mood concerns, behavior management, and attentional or executive functioning deficits. I also specialize in selective mutism, concussion recovery and adjustment to life stressors, including divorce. In addition to my work in private practice, I also provide training and supervision to graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees in clinical psychology.

                                                                      DR. GORMAN'S THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

When approaching work with a client, I integrate a number of theories and techniques to conceptualize problems and to develop a treatment plan. I rely most heavily on evidence-based treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral family systems therapy. Additionally, I place great emphasis on the development of a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship. I am committed to providing a nonjudgmental, empathic and safe space where you and your child feel comfortable discussing and working on challenging issues.

I explore how children and adolescents behave in different contexts, including at home, school, amongst his or her peers, or even on a sports team. In my experience, including one or more family members in treatment is often beneficial to ensure that our approach is as collaborative as possible. I welcome feedback about the progress your child is making and strive to make adjustments as needed in order to ensure that therapeutic goals are met. I’ve worked on many interdisciplinary teams and possess the skills required to communicate effectively with other providers and professionals in your child’s life, if we decide that is in your child’s best interest.
