                                                     ABOUT DR. MILLER

Welcome and thank you for visiting my practice! I have worked in the mental health field since 1998.  I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Emory University and    continued my education at The Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University, where I received my Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology degrees.

As a clinical psychologist and former school psychologist, I have been in private practice since 2006. Prior, I worked in educational settings ranging from preschools to colleges, as well as in multiple clinical settings in Philadelphia and Frederick. I am delighted to be practicing in my native Baltimore.

I specialize in treating a wide range of anxiety disorders across the life span, including selective mutism, OCD, phobias, separation anxiety, and generalized anxiety. I provide evidence-based, expert treatment for selective mutism (SM), an anxiety disorder of childhood.  I was proud to serve for 3 years on the Board of Directors of The Selective Mutism Association (SMA, formerly the Selective Mutism Group), a national non-profit organization dedicated to education and advocacy work for selective mutism. I am committed to continuing to spread awareness and education about SM, and do so by providing training to local and national audiences of parents, educators, and professionals interested in learning more about effective intervention.

I am also passionate about supporting women through pregnancy and the postpartum period. I completed post-graduate training at the Postpartum Stress Center in Philadelphia, the East Coast’s premiere treatment and professional training center for postpartum depression and anxiety.

I am available to provide presentations on topics related to my areas of expertise. Please contact me for more information.

                                                                      DR. MILLER'S THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

To get a sense of my personality and style, listen to my podcasts here.

I integrate a variety of evidence-based treatment into my work, relying most heavily on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  These approaches are strongly supported through research as highly effective treatment for many psychological concerns, especially anxiety and depression.

Therapeutic techniques are only one aspect of a psychologist’s approach, however.  The relationship between an individual and his or her therapist has been shown through extensive research to be a key component in healing. To that end, I focus heavily on developing a warm, honest, and trusting relationship with my clients. I strive to be compassionate and straightforward.  I also encourage clients to voice any questions, concerns, and opinions they may have throughout the process of therapy, as I regard therapeutic progress as reliant on teamwork between myself and those I treat.

I also value communication with other relevant care providers when appropriate, including primary care physicians/pediatricians, psychiatrists, and schools.

I look forward to speaking with you about how I can help!
