ABOUT DR. GELFAND
I am a licensed psychologist and specialize in services for children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. I completed my undergraduate work at the College of William and Mary and received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Loyola College in Maryland. I completed my pediatric psychology internship at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as my postdoctoral fellowship specializing in children and adolescents with chronic illness. I have previously provided both therapy and psycho-educational evaluations in a variety of settings, including community mental health, pediatric hospitals, schools, and private practice.
I also have significant experience working with high school and college students, particularly in helping them navigate major developmental transitions, such as the move from high school to college, and from college to post-graduate life. Supporting adolescents and young adults through academic, social, and emotional challenges is a central part of my work.
DR. GELFAND'S THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety disorders, OCD, Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), depression, AD/HD, body image difficulties, and perfectionism. I offer both individual and family therapy services and use a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am flexible in my approach because I truly want to establish a good “fit” with each of my clients and their families. I strive to create a warm, trusting, and supportive environment so that clients feel comfortable discussing difficulties, concerns, and questions.
I offer in-person, hybrid, and telehealth services to best meet the needs of my clients and their families. This flexible model allows clients to choose the format that feels most comfortable and accessible, and often supports greater consistency in treatment. As a PSYPACT-authorized provider, I am able to offer telehealth services in many states, which is especially beneficial for high school and college students during periods of transition.
I look forward to working with you!
